COLONIAL SECRETARY'S OFFICE,

HONG KONG,

3rd March, 1938.

Dear Jeffries,

Many thanks for your letter of the 21st

January No. 13267 C. R. about L.H.King. The formula

you enclosed will enable the Treasury to work out

the awards and we can then consider whether any

special treatment can be recommended.

We recently sent you another pension

conundrum in the Governor's air mail despatch of the

1/53890/38 x 4th February No. 104 regarding the payment of pensions

NO P.F

at fixed rates of exchange. I am not sure that we

made it sufficiently clear that one of the officers

immediately concerned, Mr. de Souza, is pressing for

an early decision as his retirement is imminent and his arrangements are necessarily dependent on whether he will get the privileged rate if he lives outside

Hong Kong. It is a rather horrible subject but if it can be disposed of quickly we should be very

grateful.

C. J. Jeffries, Esq., 0.B.E.,

Colonial Office,

LONDON.

Yours sincerely,

S. Gaine
